If Laughter Is The Best Medicine, Breast Cancer Has Met Its Match in Julia Louis Dreyfus

It's her hard work and dedication that's given her a career full of awards and achievements - it's with that same dedication that acrtress Julia Louis Dreyfus is prepared to battle breast cancer and come out on top.

Just over 10 days ago, Julia Louis Dreyfus became the first performer to win a record-holding 6th Emmy for a single role as best actress in Veep. The long-running series also captured this year's Emmy for outstanding comedy series, no doubt a direct result of Dreyfus' perfect comedic timing.

Dreyfus was also one of the several key actors on Seinfeld that arguably made the show one of the most successful and iconic comedies in TV history. She is a Saturday Night Live alumni and is in her 30th year of marriage to her “boyfriend” - actor, director, comedian, writer and fellow SNL-alum Brad Hall - that clearly defies the Hollywood definition of coupling.

Dreyfus continues to prove she is willing to meet any challenge head on, so the bravery with which she made this week's public announcement came as no surprise to her fellow actors, friends and family. Dreyfus announced on Twitter that she is “the one” of “the 1 in 8 women who get breast cancer.”

She also took the opportunity to use her celebrity to draw attention to making “universal health care a reality,” saying that “I have fantastic insurance through my union but not all women are so lucky.” The Veep star received messages of encouragement from plenty of supporters, including former Vice President Joe Biden, who noted that “we Veeps stick together,” and former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who noted that she was “inspired but not surprised” that Dreyfus was “using your platform for good in this difficult moment.”

Veep producers also announced this week that this season, the shows’ 7th, will be the last, however production will move forward and be adjusted around Dreyfus’ treatment schedule. Well wishes can be sent to Dreyfus on Twitter at @OfficialJLD.
