How To Rise Like Queen Bey: Never Be Afraid to Fall

“What I love about seeing Beyoncé proudly own her misstep is that she proved that sometimes falling is just a stepping stone to the next step in our greatness.”

For years I’ve helped and counseled women from all walks of life, public and private. Though they vary in age, race, economic status, and public persona, they have a common denominator in needing help in healing their minds, bodies, and souls. They understand that regardless of their station in life, they are human, and being keenly aware of their humanity is what will ultimately lead them to a prosperous life.

So when I’m approached by people who are convinced that financial success automatically renders a person infallible, I take a moment to remind them that even those at the top of the game sometimes make mistakes. It’s knowing how to handle those mistakes that keep the most successful people moving forward.

Take Beyoncé, who, along with her sister Solange, proudly took the stage yesterday for the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Stunning audiences as usual with her incredible dance moves and mesmerizing stage presence, Beyoncé accidentally dropped her younger sibling and in trying to manage the error herself took a dive to the floor. The fall could have signaled the end of the performance for a less experienced performer, but Queen B and sis Solange got right up and continued owning Beychella for another weekend. What a way to rise to the occasion.

What I love about seeing Beyoncé proudly own her misstep is that she proved that sometimes falling is just a stepping stone to the next step in our greatness. And even better is that she took the fall alongside her sister, proving that the most successful women know we are at our best when we fully support our sisterhood.

You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.

– Richard Branson

I’m a firm believer that getting up and getting back in the game is the biggest milestone we can achieve toward any achievement. And if you’re going to fall, fall like Beyoncé—don’t be afraid to stand up proudly, and dare anyone to challenge your mistake. Our greatest failures often become the grandest of our accomplishments.
